#BoldDailyThought – Portia MacIntosh
When people share quotes that mean a lot to them they are usually pulled from the pages of great books, or they’re meaningful words from incredible people, or even something truly profound from a life-affirming film.
My favourite quote isn’t one of those quotes.
Of all the words of wisdom I’ve heard over the years the line that has truly meant the most to me comes from none other than The Office’s Andy Bernard.
“I wish there was a way to know you were in the good old days before you actually left them.”
Now, more than ever, I think about that line. Being stuck in lockdown, separated from family and friends, not being able to go anywhere or do anything, and all while people around us are struggling and falling ill. Looking back, to life before whatever this is, I can’t believe the things I used to fret over, the things that used to get me down, things I had to do that I let annoy me.
We really don’t know we’re in the good old days until they’re behind us. All being well, these bad old days we’re living in now will soon be a thing of the past, and we can get back to ‘normal life’, but hopefully we take these experiences with us and keep them close, just in case we ever need the reminder.
